The Official Competition Program
In lower classes (Start & C-class) 3 dances are performed; in B-class 4 dances. From A-class onwards, all 5 dances are performed on the dance floor.
The 5 Standard Dances
Elegant, flowing, and timeless
English Waltz
EnglandA calm, flowing dance in 3/4 time. Characterized by long lines and graceful turns — often considered the most romantic of the Standard dances.
Tango
ArgentinaA tight, powerful dance in 2/4 time. Known for sharp head movements and sudden stops — dramatic and intense in character.
Viennese Waltz
AustriaThe fastest ballroom dance in 3/4 time, with constant rotations. Creates an elegant and classic atmosphere on the floor.
Slow Foxtrot
United StatesA slow, flowing dance in 4/4 time. Known for its gliding steps and subtle swing — considered one of the most technically challenging Standard dances.
Quickstep
United StatesA fast, energetic dance in 4/4 time. Features jumps, chassés and playful movements — cheerful and light, often closing the Standard round.

Samba
BrazilA rhythmic dance with bounce action and joyful hip movements. Symbolizes celebration and energy on the dance floor.
Cha Cha Cha
CubaA fast, playful dance with the characteristic "cha-cha-cha" rhythm. Flirty and lively in character.
Rumba
CubaA slow, sensual dance emphasizing hip movements. Often considered the most romantic of the Latin dances.
Paso Doble
SpainA dramatic dance inspired by Spanish bullfighting. The man portrays the matador, the woman often represents the cape.
Jive
United StatesA fast swing dance with kicks, spins and cheerful energy. Rooted in rock-'n'-roll and boogie-woogie tradition.
